"I have worked a deal with Jared Olsen, Idaho's Peace Officers Standard and Training DUI Prosecuting Attorney. He is bringing in Prosecutors and reconstructionists from Utah, Oregon, Washington and several other states for a conference that starts on September 16th. We are going to share some of the speakers and will have all of us meet at our dinner on the night of Wed the 16th. I thought this might be a good time for us to meet and talk about what ever is on our minds. As part of the plan, Jared's speakers will come in on Monday to view our crashes and then they will add to our program on things like how they get ready for court and how to get things into the court, things like that. This is not just for criminal but also for civil. John Kwasnoski will be one of the presenters.
We have come up with an idea on determining drag factors for vehicles that have been struck and rotated out after impact. We are using our PIT cars and running tests where we use a marking gun to measure the distance from where the car is struck to where it comes to an uncontrolled stop and with the known speed then calculating the drag factor. We hope to have over 100 tests documented before the conference and then demonstrate the test for the conference with all of the data. We will have the known speeds of the vehicles in our crash so we should be able to check out our finds there also.
We plan on having about 8 hands on stations on Wed that go from skid marks, drag sleds, accelerometers, critical speed scuffs, photographs, measuring devices and interviews with reports, to truly have from crash to courtroom. On Thur. you will get all of the info from the two crashes with raw data, drawings, photos, and a report as if we were ready to go to court. Maybe even a video illustration of our reconstruction if I can pull it off in time."
